Florida Derby day grid

The pick five (races 8-12) is really interesting to me because I am willing to take a stand in races 11-12 to go deeper early whereas I think most other tickets will have it in reverse: zeroing in on favorites early to go deeper in the "wide open" turf heats.

As for the Florida Derby, the more I look the more I can't dismiss Soldat as quickly as I had planned. Sure, there's the pace questions in this race, but the professionalism he has shown in each of his seven starts tells me that he will be wherever Garcia wants him, and the Moss pace figures tell me that his being on the lead the past two starts was more circumstance than a "need the lead" situation, and if he shows the same punch as last race that put away Gourmet Dinner and To Honor And Serve, then Dialed In or Stay Thirsty might not catch him.

That said, I can't leave the latter two off any of my tickets give that they're fast enough and figure to get the best trips.

In race 7, I see Ocean Seven as likely being overbet given the connections and that his half sister is world beater Goldikova. He seems to race near the front, which is good at Gulfstream, but assuming he gets hammered I'll take my chances elsewhere.
