Keep it moving

Count Frankie Dettori as one who believes the Breeders' Cup World Championships should continue moving around to different locations around the United States.

While Breeders' Cup officials have contemplated a permanent site for the sport's end-of-season championship races, Dettori, one of the world's most successful and popular jockeys, thinks that would be a mistake.

"Honestly, I think everyone should get to see it," he said during Godolphin's annual open house on Wednesday. "Let people on the West Coast come and see it. Let people on the East Coast come see it. Let people in the middle of the country come see it. I think that's really the only fair way to do it as far as the fans go.

"Personally, it gives me the chance to ride at multiple tracks, which I enjoy as I don't get over there very often. I really like Santa Anita, I really like Belmont [Park], and I really like Churchill, and I wouldn't get as many chances to visit those places if the Breeders' Cup didn't go there. Every track has its own strengths and aspects that you enjoy about it, and it would be a shame not to get to experience those."

If anyone from abroad is qualified to have an opinion on the subject, it would be Dettori, who has won more Breeders' Cup races (eight since 1994) than any other international rider.

3 soothsayers:

  1. Love your updates, Steve! Keep up the great work. And I REALLY hope TPTB at Breeders' Cup heed Frankie's words.

  3. There are World Chapionships and there are world champion's. The Brooklyn Dodgers, The San Francisco 49's, The Chicago Bulls, The Kentucky Derby, The Breeders Cup...all American, all the World as we know it. But what about the rest of the globe? It doesn't exist is the way most Americans think. There is me and then there is me....I live America, I speak American, I am America. I live in purgatory!!!
