A few of us remarked earlier in the week how refreshingly cool it had seemed, even during the middle of the day, as temperatures reached only the low to mid-80s.
Perhaps we spoke a bit too soon.
Today the temperature has climbed to 95 degrees at 3:10 p.m. and, according to some folks in the Meydan press box, could be near 100 tomorrow on Dubai World Cup day.
I could even feel the difference this morning as I walked/jogged about three miles about 5:15 a.m. I sweated through a T-shirt and shorts, which I had not done the previous two mornings.
With all of my work done for the rest of the day (the first time all week I was done before midnight), the plan now is to go for another three-mile trek, come back and sit by the pool for a bit to soak up some of this wonderful sun (yes, life IS rough!), attend a reception for media members at a bar in the media hotel at 7 p.m., and then cross the street for dinner and shisha with my international pals at an outdoor cafe before actually getting to bed before 10:30 for some much needed sleep.
Tomorrow will be hectic as they are advising journalists to arrive at Meydan no later than 10 or 11 a.m., even though first post for the Purebred Arabian race is 4:45, to avoid possible delays caused by traffic and security.
By tonight, the anticipation of a great day of racing will be starting to build. Figures it would be on the one night I had planned devote to sleep. At least the dreams, if there are any, should be pleasant ones.

OMG!! You are the luckiest dude on the planet!
ReplyDeleteIt's exciting to read your account of all things "swanky" at Meydan - and also makes one very envious,I must say. But all in all, we are very fortunate to have your up to the minute reporting on the goings on at the most opulent and modern racing facility ever.
Keep up the good work!! :)
